Senate passes earthquake hazards reduction bill

A bi-partisan effort to strengthen the nation’s ability to prepare for and recover from earthquakes has successfully passed the Senate. The bill, the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) Reauthorization Act, focuses on preparation and protection efforts by improving the seismic stability of infrastructure, remove barriers between federal agencies sharing earthquake data, increasing and updating earthquake hazard maps, and continuing research to develop more modern risk assessments and early warning systems. The legislation next heads to the House for further consideration. Read more about NEHRP.
